6. P.E. Lessons and Sports Activities of our School
  It is our objective to provide students with balanced development in integrity, intelligence, physical fitness, gregariousness and aesthetic. Physical Education is therefore a compulsory subject in our formal curriculum and all students must attend P.E. lessons.

  If a student suffering from serious health problems (e.g. chronic heart disease, injuries, surgical operation, and other diseases concerning internal organ or acute infections) wishes to be given exemption from P.E. / swimming lessons either temporarily or on a long term basis, application should be made to the Physical Education Department of the school on/before 16th September, 2015.

  The application should be in the form of a letter signed by the parents of the student, together with a medical certificate given by a doctor practicing western medicine. The student who has been granted exemption is still required to attend the P.E. lessons as an observer. Furthermore, he/she will not be allowed to participate in any extra-curricular sports activity until a written application to resume his/her P.E./swimming lessons is made by his/her parents. The school holds no liability in this connection.

  We therefore urge you as parents to make an early application to the school pursuant to this letter if you consider that your son/daughter cannot do vigorous physical exercises either temporarily or on a long-term basis. Appropriate arrangements will then proceed accordingly.

7. Preventing the Spread of Communicable Diseases in School
  As advised by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH), outbreaks of communicable diseases such as human swine influenza, influenza, chickenpox, norovirus and hand, foot and mouth disease may occur in institutions and schools from time to time.

  Before the commencement of the new school year, we have thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the school premises. We would urge all students/staff members to pay attention to their personal hygiene and environmental hygiene of the school.

  For the sake of students’ health, we would like to appeal to you that in addition to maintaining a clean and healthy household environment, please remind your children to observe personal hygiene and keep the school environment clean. Please also kindly take note of the following measures:
  - Seek medical advice as soon as possible if your children develop symptoms of diarrhoea, vomiting and skin rash. If symptoms such as fever, sore throat or cough are developed, they should put on a mask immediately and seek medical care from designated influenza clinics as soon as possible. Please also notify the school and let the children stay at home for rest until symptoms have improved and fever has subsided for at least 2 days, or follow the medical advice on sick leave, whichever is longer.
  - Children with hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) should be excluded from schools until fever has subsided and all the vesicles have dried and crusted. As an extra precaution, children with EV 71 infection should not go to school for another two weeks after all symptoms subsided.
  - Inform the school immediately if children are sick or have been admitted to hospital for surveillance.
  - Co-operate with the school by picking up children not feeling well from school and consulting the doctor immediately.
  - Provide children with handkerchiefs or tissue papers and remind them not to share towels or tissue papers with others.
  - Remind children to keep hands clean, cover nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing and dispose used tissue paper properly.
  - Before sending children to school, measure their body temperature, record the reading and sign the temperature record sheet which is available in Student and Parent Handbook 2015/2016. The control measure will take effect from 4th September, 2015 (Fri).

Please ask your child to present the temperature record sheet to his/her class teacher for checking every day. Students who fail to do so have to pay an amount of $3.00 for temperature checking at school.

  Again, we would like to appeal to parents’ co-operation in maintaining a clean and healthy household environment. Please remind your children to pay attention to personal hygiene and to take all necessary preventive measures against communicable diseases.

8. Careers Committee
  To help students in managing their Careers & Life Planning (CLP), we have adopted a set of career tool books published by Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters (HKACMGM) to be used in students’ CLP sessions and activities. F.1 to F.3 students will use “Finding Your Colours of Life” ($15 per copy) whereas F.4 to F.6, Career Mapping ($27 per copy). Message from the Principal (19th June 2015)

MUNSANG COLLEGE
民生書院
founded 1926

19th June 2015

Dear Members of the Munsang Family,

Your Support Counts
School Application for Relaxation of Building Height

Following the Education Bureau’s green light for funding the construction of a new school hall for Munsang College (Secondary School), Munsang College, School Sponsoring Body, has decided to capitalize on this opportune time to redevelop Block E (next to the swimming pool) so as to create more classrooms and facilities for further enhancing the learning and teaching environment of all the three schools on campus.

Now we feel excited to inform you that we have entered into a new phase of the campus development project: we are seeking the Town Planning Board’s approval to relax the height limit imposed on the site of the existing Block E and to redevelop Block E from a 5-storey into a 7-storey building. The additional 2 storeys would allow for the provision of an all-season swimming pool, an indoor playground and a number of classrooms.

The Town Planning Board has posted our application onto its website for the public to make comments by 30th June 2015. We would like to invite all our stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers and alumni, to go onto the webpage below for the details of the application and make comments as appropriate.

As your affirmative comment is a decisive factor if our application for the above-mentioned height relaxation is to become a success, please bear in mind the deadline on 30th June 2015 and that your support counts.

For any query or additional information, please kindly contact Mr. Louis Lui, Assistant Principal of Munsang College, at 3655 3336.

Yours sincerely,

VI.   Replacement of Smart Cards

The use of smart cards on campus has been put into operation since September 2009. The smart cards are designed for use in three consecutive school years printed on the back of the cards. The third batch of cards was printed in 2012 and is going to expire on 1st September 2015. The three school years printed on the back of these cards are “12 – 13”, “13 – 14”, “14 – 15”. Card replacement is a MUST for this batch. These cardholders with no intention to withdraw have to submit a cheque for card replacement to the class teachers by 19th June, 2015 during Post-exam Paper Checking. The details are as follows:
  • Card replacement per student: $40
  • Fee to be submitted by cheque to the Class Teacher by 19th June, 2015.
  • Cheque to be made payable to “The Incorporated Management Committee of Munsang College”.
  • Name, class and contact number of student to be written on the back of the cheque.
  • Post-dated cheques not to be accepted.
It must be noted that the submission of cheques carries no implication for securing a place at Munsang College of the next school year 2015 – 2016. The cheque will NOT be cashed till 10th July, 2015 (Registration Day). Students who do not register eventually must submit a letter of withdrawal to the General Office by the Registration Day. The cheque will be returned to them immediately. Otherwise, fee refund of card replacement will not be made.

Message from the Principal
24th April, 2015

Dear Parents and Students,

With profound grief and sadness, I regret to inform you that Dr. Rayson Huang (黃麗松博士) left us on 8th April 2015 in England.  Sorrowful as it was to learn of his departure, we are assured that he is now resting in God’s hands, and are very much privileged to have such a distinguished alumnus as Dr. Huang, whose achievements have brought glory to Munsang College and the Hong Kong education sector.

Dr. Rayson Huang was our alumnus of Class 1937, a year which was seething with turmoil and encroachments by foreign powers in China.  His personal legacy, in the meantime, attested to robustness and resilience of Munsang, which tided itself over during the days of turbulence in the city.

Dr. Huang was also the first Chinese Vice Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong.  This put him in the top echelon in education before the days of the handover.  He made enormous contributions to the community by overseeing the development of the tertiary education, as well as facilitating a smooth transition of the city in its socio-political fabric to the sovereignty of our motherland.

Last, and definitely not the least, Dr. Huang was the son of our founding principal, Mr. Rufus Huang (黃映然創校校長).  Words fail us in our gratitude to the Huangs for their guiding hands that laid Munsang on a solid foundation as it is blessed with today.

To commemorate Dr. Rayson Huang, the following activities will be held:

1. Memorial Service on 8th May 2015 (Fri)
    All F.1 to F.5 students Munsang College and student representatives of Munsang College Primary School are requested to attend a Memorial Service scheduled for 8th May 2015 (Fri) from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the School Hall. Parents and alumni are also invited to attend the service.

2. Condolence Expression from 24th April 2015 (Fri)
    From 24th April 2015 (Fri) onwards, all stakeholders of the Munsang Family are welcome to convey condolences to Dr. Rayson Huang in the Administration Centre, Munsang College.

May Dr. Rayson Huang rest in peace. Glory to Munsang.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Parents and Students,

Please take note of the following:
F.1 – F.5 Second Term Form Test Timetable
(Please refer to Appendix 1.)

Remarks:
  1. Students should refer to school homepage and AAC bulletin board for the seating arrangement (which is different from those in the First Term Form Test and Examination).
  2. Students should arrive at the examination centre 15 minutes before the test commences.  Late candidates will not be given extra time to compensate for the time loss.
  3. There is no lesson for F.1 – F.5 after the test.  Students are advised to go home immediately for revision. The normal lesson timetable will resume on 1st April 2015 (Wed, Day 6).
  4. No supplementary test would be arranged for absentees.
  5. Students are strongly advised to work hard for the Form Test and strive for their best.
F.1 – F.3 Performance Booster
In order to improve the academic performance of F.1 to F.3 students who have obtained unsatisfactory results in Chinese, English, and/or Mathematics (core subjects), the Academic Affairs Committee has arranged a remedial program, Performance Booster for them in the Second Term.

Students who failed in any of the core subjects (except Liberal Studies) in either the First Term Examination or the Second Term Form Test will be selected to join the Performance Booster from late April to May. Parents are reminded to encourage students to try their best in academic pursuit and strive for a real balance between academics and activities.

F.3 Territory-wide System Assessment (TSA)
TSA for F.3 classes (Speaking Tests in Chinese Language and English Language) has been scheduled for 21st April 2015 (Tue, Day 2) from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All F.3 students are strongly encouraged to adopt a serious attitude towards the assessments.

Earth Hour 2015 – 28th March 2015, 8:30 p.m.
Global warming is a real and serious threat to all of us.  To help reduce carbon dioxide emission which is one of the major causes of climate change, the school has taken steps to save energy such as avoiding non-essential air-conditioning.

In 2008, the global Ecological Footprint was 1.5 times what the planet could provide; meaning it would take 1.5 years for the Earth to regenerate the renewable resources which mankind used in a year.  In Hong Kong today, the situation is even more severe.  According to the latest research by the World Wildlife Fund (“WWF”) and Global Footprint Network, if everyone on Earth were to live the way Hong Kong does, humanity would require 3.1 Earths to meet its needs.

Earth Hour, organised by WWF, is the world's largest collective environmental action involving individuals, communities, businesses and governments across the world.  Participation is simple: as many people and organizations as possible turn off their non-essential lights at the appointed time for one hour.  This collective action sends a powerful message: everyone wants a sustainable future.

This year, Earth Hour 2015 will be held on 28th March 2015 at 8:30 p.m.  We earnestly hope that you would also participate in the event by turning off the lights at home for an hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on that day.  For more information, please visit the website of the WWF-Hong Kong at “https://earthhour.wwf.org.hk/en/”.  Your participation and contribution are highly appreciated.

Vigilance against Seasonal Influenza
According to the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), the current influenza activity in Hong Kong is still at a high level and is expected to remain at a high level for some time.  To prevent outbreaks of influenza or other respiratory infections, we would continue to actively check the body temperature of all students every day when they arrive at school so as to identify students with fever.  Students with fever and respiratory symptoms are strongly advised not to attend school till 48 hours after fever has subsided.  In addition, you are advised of the following measures to prevent influenza and respiratory tract infection:
  • To receive seasonal influenza vaccination for personal protection;
  • To build up good body immunity by having a proper diet, regular exercise and adequate rest, reducing stress and avoiding smoking;
  • To maintain good personal and environmental hygiene;
  • To keep hands clean and wash hands properly;
  • To cover nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing and dispose of nasal and mouth discharge properly;
  • To wash hands after sneezing, coughing or cleaning the nose;
  • To maintain good ventilation;
  • To avoid going to crowded or poorly ventilated public places when influenza is prevalent; high-risk individuals may consider putting on surgical masks when staying in such places; and
  • To wear surgical mask and seek medical advice promptly if symptoms of respiratory tract infection or fever develop.
Teaching Interflow & Staff Development Day
Teaching Interflow between teachers of our school and other renowned local secondary schools, who will pay us a visit and share with us their teaching experience, has been scheduled from 9th February 2015 to 25th March 2015.

To allow students time for preparing for the Form Test and facilitate teachers to reflect on the interflow, a staff development program has been arranged in the afternoon on 25th March 2015 (Wed) and the afternoon classes of all levels on that day will be cancelled.  Students are strongly advised to make good use of the afternoon and work hard for the Form Test.

Dear Parents and Students,

Campus Development Project, CROSS
Consultation Forums

Following the Education Bureau’s funding approval of a new school hall for the secondary school, the school administration was given an opportunity to review the overall provision of campus facilities.  With an aim to enhance the learning and teaching environment of all three schools at the Munsang College campus in Kowloon City, it was decided to capitalize on this opportune time to redevelop the campus to create more classrooms and facilities for special purposes.

For this infrastructure development project, we have commissioned a distinguished consultant, AD+RG Architecture Design and Research Group Ltd., to conduct design and feasibility studies.  However, before moving forward, we would like to seek the views of parents, students and alumni on the preliminary design concept.  Therefore, we would like to cordially invite you to attend one or both of the two consultation forums slated to be held next week.
